What is your favorite food, and why does it hold a special place in your heart? My Grandma Barbara’s Chicken & Dumplings.
Have you ever traveled to a country where you didn’t speak the language? Yes, in 2019 I took my very first solo trip outside of the U.S. and traveled to the Netherlands. Thankfully, many people there speak both Dutch and English, so navigating was pretty smooth at first. But things got a bit more challenging when I met up with some friends and we continued on to Belgium and France—two beautiful countries where I didn’t speak the language at all. There were definitely moments of confusion and uncertainty, especially when reading menus, navigating train stations, or asking for directions. But thanks to Google Translate (and a whole lot of pointing and smiling), I managed to make it work! It pushed me out of my comfort zone and taught me how resourceful I could be. It’s an experience I’ll never forget—and it gave me a deeper appreciation for the kindness of strangers and the power of technology!
What was your first job, and what valuable lesson did you learn from it? My very first job was at Cracker Barrel, and I’ll never forget how it all came together. The woman who had cut my hair throughout high school owned a small shop, and one day she graciously agreed to fit me in for a last-minute trim and color—on the condition that I help her out around the shop that day. I gladly said yes and spent the day sweeping and making myself useful. As fate would have it, her final client of the day took notice. While she was in the chair, she commented on how well I was helping out. We started chatting, and she asked if I had a job. When I said no, she smiled and replied, “Well, now you do. Come see me Saturday.” Just like that, I landed my first job outside of my family's business. Her name was Ginny, and she became one of the most impactful mentors I've ever had. She taught me the importance of taking pride in my work and what it truly means to deliver high-quality guest service. That experience laid the foundation for how I approach every job I’ve had since—with care, commitment, and a smile

It’s a lesson I carry with me every day
Have you ever attended a live concert? Which one was your first, and what made it memorable? Yes, I’ve been lucky enough to attend many live concerts over the years, though honestly, I can’t quite recall which one was my very first! What I do remember is the electric energy of being in the crowd—the way the music pulses through you and how it connects everyone in that shared moment.Every concert has left its own special mark, with memories of great performances, the excitement of discovering new artists, and the simple joy of singing along with friends. Live music has a way of making time stand still, and I’m grateful for all those unforgettable nights.
What is your favorite movie, and why does it resonate with you? One of my favorite movie is Prayers for Bobby. It resonates deeply with me because of its powerful message about love, acceptance, and the struggles many face when trying to be true to themselves. The story is incredibly moving and raw, showing how family, faith, and understanding can evolve in the face of hardship. One of the reasons this movie stands out to me is because of a quote by Mary Griffith that truly hits home: “Before you echo 'Amen' in your home or place of worship, think and remember... a child is listening.”That line is a profound reminder of the impact our words and actions have on those around us, especially children. Watching Prayers for Bobby reminds me of the importance of compassion and the courage it takes to stand up for who you are. It’s a film that stays with you long after it ends, inspiring empathy and hope.

In my free time, I love traveling and exploring new places—it’s one of the best ways to soak up different cultures and find inspiration for my creative work. I’m also an avid reader and storyteller, which naturally ties into my passion for playwriting. Crafting stories and bringing them to life is a way I connect with others and express myself. One quirky hobby I really enjoy is collecting unique items with my grandparents—like uranium glass and vintage irons from different time periods. It’s fascinating to me how these objects carry history and stories of their own, almost like little time capsules that spark curiosity and wonder.
Do you play any musical instruments? How did you get started, and what do you love about it? Yes, I did play an instrument—I picked up the alto saxophone in middle school and continued through early high school. I enjoyed my time with it and learned a lot about music and discipline along the way. While the saxophone wasn’t my ultimate passion, it gave me a great foundation in music and taught me the joy of creating sound. It was a valuable chapter in my creative journey, even if I eventually moved on to other forms of expression.
Diving Deeper into Jonathan's Personal Experiences
What is an item on your bucket list that you’ve recently checked off? One item I recently checked off my bucket list was going on a cruise—and what an unforgettable experience it was! In September 2024, my best friend Bianca and I set sail on our very first cruise aboard the Carnival Paradise. We were beyond excited, ready for sun-soaked days and ocean breezes. But the trip turned out to be more than just tropical drinks and deck lounging—we actually encountered a hurricane while out at sea! It was both thrilling and a little terrifying, but we stuck it out together and made it through. The whole experience turned into one of those epic stories that we’ll be telling for the rest of our lives. From the wild weather to the late-night-laughs, it was truly a once-in-a-lifetime adventure with my bestie.
Have you ever gone scuba diving or tried any adventurous water sports? I haven’t gone scuba diving in the ocean (yet!), but I did get a taste of it in high school when I tried scuba diving in my friend’s swimming pool. It might not have been the open sea, but it was still a cool experience to gear up and breathe underwater for the first time.Even in that small setting, it gave me a sense of what it might feel like to explore the underwater world—and it definitely sparked my curiosity to try the real thing someday!
What was your favorite subject in high school, and how has it shaped your interests today? My favorite subject in high school was History. I was always drawn to the stories of the past and how they shape the world we live in today. That interest has followed me into my career and continues to influence my work in meaningful ways.History gives depth and context to the creative projects I take on, especially when it comes to cultural representation. Understanding the backgrounds, struggles, and triumphs of different communities helps me approach storytelling with greater sensitivity and authenticity. It’s not just about looking back—it’s about honoring the past while creating something thoughtful and inclusive for the future.
Do you have a favorite podcast that you listen to regularly? What draws you to it? Yes, I do! I regularly listen to The Ramsey Show, and it’s become a staple in my daily routine. The podcast focuses on personal finance, budgeting, and becoming debt-free—topics that are not only practical but deeply empowering. What draws me to it is the way it breaks down financial principles in a clear, relatable way. It’s not just about numbers; it’s about building a future with intention and freedom. Listening to people share their debt-free journeys is incredibly motivating and reminds me that with the right mindset and tools, financial peace is possible for anyone and everyone.
What is your dream job, and what steps are you taking toward achieving it? My dream job is to work in the Creative division for one of the theme parks in Orlando—bringing stories to life through immersive design and innovation. There's something truly magical about creating experiences that transport people to entirely new worlds.Ultimately, my biggest dream is to open my own fabrication studio—an imaginative space where costumes, sets, props, and other theatre and entertainment-based elements are designed and brought to life. I want to build a place that supports artists, celebrates storytelling, and serves as a creative hub for the entertainment industry. I’m actively working toward that dream by building my skills in design, fabrication, and storytelling, while also growing my professional network and portfolio. Every project I take on—whether in theatre, education, or themed entertainment—is a step closer to turning that dream into reality.
Have you ever met someone famous? Who was it, and what was the encounter like? Yes, I’ve actually had the chance to meet quite a few famous people over the years! Some of the most memorable include Gary Sinise, Whoopi Goldberg, Neil Patrick Harris, Ray Boltz, Mariaelena Roqué, and Jesse Corti—just to name a few. Each encounter was unique, but what stood out the most was how down-to-earth and genuine many of them were. Whether it was a quick hello or a longer conversation, those moments reminded me that behind the fame, they’re real people with their own stories and passions. It’s always inspiring to meet individuals whose work has impacted so many—and it definitely adds a spark to your day!
What is your favorite ice cream flavor, and does it remind you of a particular memory? It’s hard to pick just one, but my top favorite ice cream flavors are Cookies and Cream, Snickerdoodle, and Cookie Butter. Each one has its own little charm—Cookies and Cream is that perfect blend of creamy and crunchy, Snickerdoodle gives cozy, cinnamon-sugar vibes, and Cookie Butter is just pure magic.
Can you speak any other languages besides English? How did you learn them? I can read and speak some Dutch, specifically the Netherlands form, thanks to time spent there and conversations with friends. It’s been a fun and practical way to stay connected to the culture and people I’ve met during my travels.I can also read a bit of Spanish, though I speak very little. I’ve picked it up over time through everyday exposure, signage, and context and some traditional learning—especially while traveling or in multicultural settings.
What is the most interesting place you’ve visited, and what made it stand out? One of the most interesting and impactful places I’ve ever visited was the Anne Frank House in Amsterdam. Walking through the very rooms where Anne and her family hid during such a dark chapter in history was incredibly powerful. What stood out to me the most was the atmosphere—everyone visiting moved through the space with a quiet reverence. You could feel the weight of the history, the respect people had for her story, and the deep reflection it stirred in all of us. It wasn’t just a museum—it was a sacred space of remembrance and a reminder of the resilience of the human spirit.
Have you ever participated in a marathon or a significant physical challenge? What motivated you? I haven’t participated in a marathon or major physical challenge—at least not yet! It’s something I might consider doing one day, but it’s not a focus for me at this time in my life. Right now, I’m more focused on other types of growth, both creative and personal. Still, I admire the dedication and resilience it takes to take on a challenge like that, and who knows—maybe one day the right moment and motivation will come along.
Exploring Interests and Passions
What is your favorite TV show, and what keeps you hooked? One of my all-time favorite TV shows is Queer as Folk—the early 2000s version. My second favorite Glee. Both shows had a huge impact on me during important times in my life. What keeps me hooked on them isn’t just the drama or the humor (though there’s plenty of that!), but the way they authentically represented the LGBTQ+ community. These shows helped me accept myself and realize that it’s more than okay to just be me. They offered visibility, connection, and a reminder that we all deserve to live our truth out loud.
Do you consider yourself an introvert or an extrovert? How does this influence your daily life? I consider myself an ambivert—a blend of both introvert and extrovert traits. I love connecting with people, sharing stories, and diving into creative collaborations, which brings out my extroverted side. But I also deeply value my alone time, especially when I need to recharge or tap into creative focus. This balance influences my daily life by helping me stay grounded. I can be social and energized in group settings, but I also know when to pull back and give myself space. It’s helped me become more self-aware and intentional with how I spend my time and energy.
What is a random fun fact about you that often surprises people? A random fun fact about me that often surprises people is that I collect uranium glass and antique irons from different time periods! Most people don’t expect that, but I’ve always been fascinated by objects that carry history and character. Uranium glass literally glows under UV light, which makes it feel like holding a little piece of magic—and antique irons are like tiny time machines that tell stories of everyday life from long ago. It’s an unusual hobby, but it definitely makes for some great conversation starters!
Have I had any pets? Tell us about them and how they became part of your family. Yes, I’ve had pets—and the one that will always have a special place in my heart was my first dog, Ebony Onyx. When I was three years old, my dad was working as an assistant manager at a local restaurant. One of his employees was going through a really tough time—her husband was an alcoholic, and their dog had just given birth to a litter of puppies. Her husband was furious about the cost of the puppies and, during a drunken episode, threatened to kill them. Distraught, she came to work in tears and told my dad she had one week to find homes for them before something tragic happened. My dad went home and asked my mom if we could take one of the puppies. I didn’t know any of this at the time, of course—I just remember one night being woken up by my dad, who told me he had a surprise for me. That surprise turned out to be a little black, long-haired Dachshund puppy. We named her Ebony Onyx because of her sleek, shiny black coat and glassy eyes that reminded us of a polished stone. From that moment on, Ebony and I were inseparable. Growing up without many kids in the neighborhood, she was truly my best friend. We played together outside, ran through the woods, and even slid down the slide together. She was small, playful, and the perfect companion for a little kid like me. Sadly, when I was around eleven, tragedy struck. We were helping remodel a daycare my mom owned, and a worker accidentally tossed a tile hoe over a fence. Ebony, who had severe cataracts by that point, mistook the object for a treat and ran toward it. The hoe struck her in the head, and the injury was fatal.Losing her broke my heart. I had her for about seven years, and she was the first pet I was ever truly responsible for. Even now, I still miss her. She wasn’t just a dog—she was my friend, my shadow, and one of the first beings who taught me about love, loyalty, and loss. My second pet and one of the most unique and unexpectedly joyful pets I’ve ever had was a veiled chameleon named Princess Rainbow aka P Rain. She wasn’t your typical cuddly companion, but she had a quiet charm and a vibrant presence that made a lasting impact on both me and my grandmother. Princess Rainbow came into my life and my grandmothers during a time when we could really use a little extra light and happiness. Her stunning colors and curious little habits were fascinating to watch—like how she’d slowly turn her head to observe the world around her or change her colors depending on her mood or environment. She quickly became more than just a pet; she became a calming presence in our home. What surprised me the most was how much my grandmother connected with her. Every day, she would sit near Princess Rainbow’s enclosure and talk to her softly, admiring how graceful and gentle she was in addition to holding her and let her chill on her lap while watching tv.. It became a sweet routine—a quiet, shared joy between the three of us. Even though Rainbow couldn’t speak, it always felt like she was listening. Princess Rainbow brought laughter, curiosity, and calm into our lives. She reminded us to slow down and find beauty in the little things, even if it’s just in the way a chameleon climbs a branch or how its eyes move independently to explore the world. She may have been small and silent, but the happiness she brought to me and my grandmother was anything but.
What is your favorite way to unwind after a long day? My favorite way to unwind after a long day is to create a cozy space and fully disconnect. That might mean putting on a playlist that matches my mood, lighting a candle, and diving into a good book or watching a comfort show I’ve seen a hundred times but still love.Sometimes, I journal or just sit with my thoughts—especially if the day was intense. If I need something more hands-on, I’ll work on a creative project or do something simple like organizing a collection or scrolling through ideas for future adventures. It’s all about slowing down and finding peace in the small, quiet moments.
Have you ever started a blog or considered starting one? What topics would you cover? Yes, I’ve definitely considered starting a blog—and it’s something that still calls to me. If I were to launch one, it would be a blend of storytelling, travel adventures, creative inspiration, and personal reflections. I’d want it to be a space where people can feel seen, inspired, and encouraged to embrace their own journeys.
Some of the topics I’d love to cover include:
Behind-the-scenes looks at creative projects like playwriting, fabrication, or themed entertainment
Travel stories—especially the quirky, unexpected moments that make each trip unforgettable
Mental health and self-discovery
Nostalgic storytelling—sharing personal memories and the lessons hidden in everyday life
Unique collections like my uranium glass or antique irons
My main goal would be to blend honesty, creativity, and heart—kind of like having a conversation over coffee with someone who just gets it.
What causes or charities are you passionate about, and why? I’m deeply passionate about supporting causes that uplift people in times of need and foster a sense of dignity, hope, and inclusion. Three organizations especially close to my heart are The Trevor Project, Second Harvest Food Bank, and St. Vincent de Paul Charities. The Trevor Project holds a special place in my heart because of its life-saving work supporting LGBTQ+ youth. Their mission to provide crisis intervention and suicide prevention for young people in the queer community is so vital. Everyone deserves to be seen, supported, and loved exactly as they are, and The Trevor Project is doing powerful work to make that a reality. Second Harvest Food Bank is another cause I care deeply about. Food insecurity is something no one should have to face, yet it affects so many families. Second Harvest doesn’t just feed people—they restore hope, dignity, and stability. Their work helps create stronger, healthier communities, and that’s something I’ll always stand behind. St. Vincent de Paul Charities is an organization I admire for its hands-on, compassionate approach to helping those facing poverty and homelessness. They don’t just offer aid—they walk alongside people through incredibly difficult seasons, providing resources, community, and care in a deeply human way. These causes all reflect values I hold close: compassion, inclusion, and tangible support. They remind me that even small acts of kindness can create big ripples in someone’s life.
Do you have a favorite quote or mantra that inspires you? Yes, one quote that continues to inspire me is by Mary Griffith from Prayers for Bobby: “Before you echo 'Amen' in your home or place of worship, think and remember… a child is listening.”This quote has stayed with me for years because it speaks to the power of words, especially when spoken from places of influence like faith and family. It’s a reminder to lead with compassion and to be mindful that our beliefs and actions shape the world of those around us—especially the most vulnerable. It motivates me to live authentically, advocate for those who need a voice, and be a source of safety and understanding in my work and personal life.
What is your favorite holiday, and how do you like to celebrate it? My favorite holiday has to be Christmas—there’s something truly magical about it that fills me with joy every year. From the twinkling lights to the cozy gatherings, Christmas feels like a time when the world slows down just enough for us to appreciate the little moments that matter most. I love how the season brings people together—whether it’s decorating the tree, baking treats, or sharing stories by the fire. There’s an unmistakable warmth in the air, a kind of hope and kindness that feels almost tangible. For me, Christmas isn’t just about the gifts or the traditions, but about the magic of connection and the simple happiness of being surrounded by loved ones. It’s a time to reflect, to dream, and to celebrate the wonder of the season.
How do you stay motivated when a passion project gets challenging? When a passion project gets challenging, I stay motivated by reconnecting with the deeper purpose behind why I started it in the first place. Whether it’s creating stories, designing sets, or exploring new creative ideas, I remind myself that every obstacle is part of the journey toward something meaningful.I also lean on routine and discipline—having a consistent schedule helps me push through the tough moments, even when inspiration feels distant. Sometimes, I take a step back to recharge, drawing energy from other creative outlets or simply allowing myself some space to reset.Ultimately, it’s the vision of bringing my ideas to life and the joy of sharing that work with others that keeps me going, no matter how hard it gets.

I use clear goal-setting to map out what needs to get done, breaking big projects into manageable steps so they feel less overwhelming. Keeping a routine helps me build momentum, but I also make sure to leave space for inspiration and flexibility—because creativity doesn’t always follow a strict schedule.I use tools like planners and digital calendars to track deadlines and appointments, and I prioritize tasks by importance and urgency. Working solo gives me the focus and creative freedom to dive deep into a project and bring my own vision to life. It allows me to set my own pace and approach challenges in my unique way. That said, there’s something truly energizing about working with a small group of passionate people who share a common goal. Collaboration sparks new ideas and pushes everyone to bring their best. I enjoy the dynamic exchange of creativity and feedback, where everyone’s strengths complement one another. Small teams create a close-knit environment where communication flows easily, and that sense of camaraderie makes the work not only more productive but also more enjoyable. Ultimately, I find that the best results come from a mix of both—independent focus combined with collaborative energy.

2.Have you ever pulled off an epic prank? What happened, and how did people react? Oh yes — I’ve pulled off a couple of pretty epic pranks, both involving my grandma Maryjo (who has the best reactions). It was way too funny — we didn’t let it go on too long, but her reaction was unforgettable. Another time in high school, when I had sheep for 4H, I called her and said I was a dad and she was officially a grandma. She totally freaked out again — it was hilarious. Safe to say, she’s always a good sport… after the initial shock!
